Yoro Biological Corridor is the first to apply for the official “forest corridor” designation protection status in Honduras, and is aiming to be the largest officially protected biological forest corridor in Central America plus a world example for other tropical forests.

Yoro Biological Corridor spans 12,603 square kilometers and includes 10 protected areas including four national parks, comprising 33 municipalities and a total population of nearly 900,000 people. These parks and protected areas are surrounded by coffee producing regions and expanding coffee production is currently driving deforestation in their high-elevation forests.
The boundaries of the Yoro Biological Corridor (YBC) were established based on a national technical review conducted by the Institute for Forest Conservation (ICF). Through this process, the boundaries were expanded to include the nation’s two largest watersheds: The Ulúa River basin and the Aguan River basin. These water reserves are responsible for satisfying the basic needs of the Honduran population, as well as for the generation of electrical energy and irrigation of agricultural lands.

This website was created to inform those interested, collect support, and urge people in power to take the necessary actions to help get these programs off-the-ground and addressing climate change.
What is a Biological Forest Corridor?
A territorial planning unit composed of legally protected natural areas and a connection area between them, which provides a set of environmental goods and services; And provides spaces for social agreement to promote investment in the conservation, and the management and sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity, in order to contribute to improving the quality of life of its inhabitants without undermining its natural environment.
